Sometimes it’s nice to step away from the rush of life and observe

This video essay portrays a small rural village in southern France.

Whilst visiting the area on a holiday I had some spare time to go out and film the beautiful surroundings. The quietness of the place and the simplicity of life really spoke to me and got me thinking about my own busy life in the city. Why are we always in such a rush?

So I made this musical composition a couple of weeks ago and wondered what I should do with it. In the meantime I played some rpg video games and thought why not add some ambiences to the track and create that open world game feeling.

I went outside and ventured to a forest area where I knew there was a small creek running. After waiting for a bit for the traffic in the distance to become silent (because Netherlands...), I recorded this lovely stream running. With that I added some crows screeching which I recorded this morning at 05:30....

The reason I got up so early was to record some birds waking up, but unlucky for me, there were no birds chirping their songs. Really a forecast for the bad weather coming this week. I dug into my archives and found some forest birds which I recorded earlier this year which fitted perfect.
